Faith/Spirituality Forum: Converting from and Eastern Church to Catholicism
Converting from and Eastern Church to Catholicism QUESTION from Raymond on February 6, 2003 I am a Roman Catholic. My fiancee was baptised and raise in the Eastern (Orthodox) Church. What would she need to do to convert to Catholicism?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on February 13, 2003 Dear Raymond:
I praise God that your fiancee wishes to convert.
What she needs to do is to contact your local parish priest. He can then give the details of what is needed for her to come into full communion with the Catholic Church.
There should be little needed in terms of knowledge and faith for her to convert. The main issues are the primacy of the Pope, papal infallibility, and a few doctrines from councils. (The Eastern Orthodox only accept the first seven councils).
We shall be praying for her and for your marriage.
