Attached is a video of a minister here in Atlanta, telling the story of the conversion of a former atheist, a college student named Ashley. The minister tells the story simply by reading excerpts from the journal Ashely kept. Ashley's new roommate, Christa, through her prayer and good example, helped bring Ashley to conversion. At first, she called Christa a fruitcake for being a Christian, and over a matter of weeks, Ashley decided she wanted what Christa had. Christa shared sermons by the same minister in this video on DVD, and soon Ashley was going with Christa to Campus Crusade for Christ events. Ashley lived only a short time after her conversion. Her family found her journal after her death, and sought out the minister Ashley mentioned in the DVD. The family gave him the original journal to keep. The story is extremely powerful and moving, a miracle story of God's love and His amazing grace. To get to that part of the sermon, click the link and you'll have to scroll to about the midpoint of the video when the minister has the black and white composition book journal that belonged to Ashley in his hands. Great story.Way back, I too considered myself an atheist. I was heavily influenced by a philosophy and history professor in my undergraduate years. The other variable that influenced me was the hypocritical witness of most people that called themselves Christians. This was probably the biggest influence. How could Christianity work' if Christians were such phonies, I reasoned. As a VERY poorly catechized Catholic, I did NOT even give the Catholic a second glance back, when I left her during that period. What I left the Church for, was the Nazarene Church, after my cousin another fellow Catholic who had been poorly catechized, converted and took half our family with him.As GK Chesterton points out, the Wine of Christianity was turned to vinegar by Calvinism, and THAT WAS my experience.SO, I spit it ALL out.Interestingly enough, in the mid 1980's when the Cosmos series was airing. I was convinced of the existence of GOD, by none other then Carl Sagan super atheist. In his pointing out that we came from no where, for no purpose, his illogical view convinced me of the opposite.Unfortunately, this thinking lead me into the error of a hybrid neo pantheistic, paganism.I languished in that hell for nearly 15 years......Many hells and lots of searching later, I find myself at the footsteps of the mother church with hat in hand and on bended knee.We all have our journey and by the grace of God, one can count oneself blessed if you have NOT deviated off the good path. Let us rejoice when one in error has returned, and let us pray and light a candle for those still lost.Tony

Thank you, Rebecca,Ashley's story put me in tears. I liked how the pastor showed us the journal page whenever Ashley used a different pen. It was an intimate look into her heart.

This reminds me of the story of Elizabeth LeSeur, who converted her atheist spouse after her death. He read her journaland realized the great gift of Faith. He returned to the Church and even became a priest! These beautiful stories go to show that we don't know how God may choose to use us for others' good.
