The Church gives us as an Advent figure the vocation of John the Baptist. John prepared the way for the coming of our Lord. This was John’s vocation, the reason for his birth. We, too, have a vocation meant for us. As the the coming of our Lord was dependent upon the vocation of John the Baptist, God may have many plans that depend upon us to live as God wants.
