Spiritual Warfare Forum: Doppelganger
Doppelganger QUESTION from Dee on October 22, 2002 Could you please explain to me what a doppelganger is? What I have found is that it is from German folklore, that it is a shadow of one's true self. From the perspective of spiritual warfare, is it possible for this to be a familiar spirit or something similar?
Any information or experience you could share would be appreciated.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on October 29, 2002 Dear Mrs. Dee:
Right, it has origins in German folklore and is considered to be a shado-self that usually only the person themselves can see, if the doppleganger chooses to do that. The doppleganger is said to whisper in our ear and put thoughts in our head. The doppleganger can be friendly or not so friendly.
This is folklore.
Now for the reality.....
What the folklore is calling a doppleganger is most likely a guardian angel (in the case of a good doppleganger) or a guardian demon (in the case of a malicious doppleganger).
Although we do not know for sure, we do know that God does assign Guardian Angels. Since Satan is an angelic being (fallen) and still works according to an angelic economy although a perverted one, we may presume perhaps that Satan may assign a demon to keep an eye on us too.
Thus, the old image of a angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other trying to influence us to good or bad may be not too far off from the truth.
