Spiritual Warfare Forum: Is this spiritual warfare with a convert?
Is this spiritual warfare with a convert? QUESTION from Faith on October 10, 2002 I was hoping someone could help me with a question. I know someone who use to be a Christian Scientist and about 4 months ago decided to join an RCIA class to convert to Catholicism.
Lately, she has been using obscene, vulgar language on another chat group that I am a member of. Posting pornographic stories that she has made up in her mind. Saying blasphemous things about Jesus. What is most distressing, during all of this she is still telling everyone she is Catholic. This is an inter-denominational website and I have made great progress with the Protestants on the site to respect Catholics. I have even had the pleasure to see many of the Protestants tell me that they were wrong in their thinking about Catholics because of continued kindness and patience with their questions.
How do I help this convert get back on the right track? What do I do to mend the damage she is doing to the efforts I have made to change the Protestants minds about Catholics. Now I am beginning to see comments like, Is this what Catholics are like? I think this is a die hard case of spiritual warfare. Any advice?
ANSWER by Mr. Joe Meineke on October 15, 2002 Dear Mrs. Faith,
Thank you for your efforts in such an important work; namely, dispelling the untruths about the Catholic Church. We will pray for you and your work, and for the person that you mentioned who appears to be upsetting the progress that you are making.
It is difficult to say what may be causing this individual to do what she is doing, and therefore also difficult to say for sure what you should do to help her. However, one of the things that you said may provide a clue. You mentioned that this change has occurred lately. I assume then that you are implying she was not like this before. If this is the case, then there is at least some likelihood that this individual is experiencing some type of spiritual attack. Although we cannot know for sure, it would be wise for you to pray some spiritual warfare prayers for her just in case. Please see the link below for the Spiritual Warfare Prayers Catalogue.
In addition, you should report behavior to the Director of Religious Education (DRE) of the parish where she is attending the RCIA classes. Someone who is blaspheming our Lord, posting pornographic messages and undermining attempts at ecumenism should not be allowed to continue in RCIA without the knowledge of the DRE and perhaps even the parish Priest. I would imagine that they would like to sit down with her and discuss these issues before she is allowed to become a member of the Church.
As far as what you can do to undo any damage that she has done, I would simply explain to the people on the website that the vast majority of Catholics are certainly not like this. You may also want to remind them that there are good and bad in every crowd. I am sure that any reasonable person will know and understand this. There may be some who will not want to listen (the, Don't confuse me with the facts; I've already made up my mind type of people) but the majority will understand that this is abnormal behavior and certainly not the way that God-loving Catholic Christians behave.
God bless you,
Joe Meineke Assistant to Bro. Ignatius
