Faith/Spirituality Forum: Anulment of a Catholic-Baptist marriage

by Catherine Frakas 05 Sep 2001

Anulment of a Catholic-Baptist marriage QUESTION from Mary Ann Peters on July 8, 2002 I am a Catholic planning to marry a Catholic man who is divorced. His first marriage was to a woman of the Baptist faith and they were married in a Baptist church with both her pastor and a Catholic priest present. Would he need to obtain an annulment if we wish to get married in the Catholic Church?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on July 15, 2002 Dear Miss Peters:
I presume your fiance© and his previous wife were both batpized?
In that event, yes an annulment is most likely needed.
Speak with your parish priest and he can direct you further in what will be needed and what the procedure will be.
