With regard to Ian's post: The GIRM specifically states that the deacon stands. . .. That to me is much more than merely indicating his position on the altar as Ian has stated. ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on April 5, 2000
Dear F. Lucero. The Ceremonial of Bishops is a book with the force of law. The Ceremonial of Bishops outweighs the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. On page 57 of the Ceremonial of Bishops we find instruction number 155 which states; The deacons remain kneeling from the epiclesis to the elevation of the cup. That's pretty straightforward.
