Olympic Committee
The Olympic Committee is inducted into our Hall of Shame for their decision to hold the 2008 Summer games in Beijing, China. China is a country with severe human rights violations. Some of these violations include forced abortions, forcing the Catholic Church underground, political oppression, treatment of prisoners, taking of political prisoners, etc. Given these issues to have the Olympics in China serves merely as a propaganda tool for the Chinese to try to garner a positive impression in the International community. To that end the Chinese government has, for example, diverted water away from rice paddies that farmers desperately need in this time of a rice shortage. This diverted water is used in Beijing for fountains and other uses to impress the world; this while the farmers languish. See the Hall of Shame entry on the Government of China
