Spiritual Warfare Forum: Family curses

by Catherine Frakas 27 Sep 2002

Family curses QUESTION from Sonya on January 29, 2003 Firstly, I am a protestant.I love all of you(Catholics), because you have cornered the beasts(Satan, evil, and demonic forces) that is destroying us. Surely, all your expertise, education, and training on is helping people. I have been clinging to this site since I found it. I am a new christian, and I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I pray and try to read the scripture daily. It is a struggle. I read Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
These demonic forces stay at me and my little family. Something strange happened years ago. I was a little girl, and while visiting a family holiness church. A little old lady used to fall asleep in the church, and as she dozed off her head would fall backwards and hit the pew. Some of my cousins would laugh at her, but we were young and ignorant. Well, one time she told some of my family members that she had a vision. The vision prophesied that people in our family would die out in 3's.
Lord have mercy, after that sure enough family members died out in 3's. Everytime this happened over and over. This is no coincidence something or someone is at force. I am not afraid of dying, but it would be nice to know how to pray and get rid of this awful occurence. I know we are not promised immortality on earth, but curses do exist. Next, something else happens. Every holiday some disturbance, argument, or fight happens and we are divided. People can cast evil spells. I have been monitoring this for a while. I have opened up my heart, and invited Christ to come in. I can't fight all the evil in my life, but I am trying. I read all the prayers you offer under headings related to curses etc., but something else has to be suggested to help me.
ANSWER by Mr. Joe Meineke on January 30, 2003 Dear Sonya, Thank you for your question. We will pray for you and for your family. Also, thank you for saying Yes to the Lord and allowing Him to be the master of your life. Of all the decisions that we can make in our lives, this is the single most important and significant one. If Jesus is not Lord of our hearts and our lives, we truly have nothing. It sounds as though you are doing the right things in this situation, namely praying the spiritual warfare prayers and living the Christ life. Keep doing these things. There is one additional question that is very important to ask yourself, and that is are you praying for the person, known or unknown, who may have put this curse on you? Are you asking God to pour down His blessings on this person and are you praying for their salvation? Do you forgive this person? These are often overlooked aspects to breaking curses, but they are extremely important nonetheless. If we do not love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44) and bless those who curse us (Luke 6:28), we are not doing as our Lord asked. Have the attitude of Jesus who loved even those who put Him to death. The second thought that comes to mind is, are you the only one praying for this intention? If possible, the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, and all involved, should be praying not only to break any possible curses, but also praying for the soul of the person who may have been the cause of the curse. Finally, arguments and fighting are not uncommon at family get-togethers. Sibling rivalry, familiarity (which, we are told in the old cliché, Breeds Contempt), and just the fact that we are more comfortable pointing out the faults and quarks of those whom we know (which can hurt feelings and cause anger), are all factors that can contribute to the blowups that the majority of us have experienced at some point in our lives. These are not necessarily signs of a curse. Rather, you are more likely experiencing what the average American family experiences when they gather together. Regardless of the cause (curse or human nature), this is certainly something that you can, and should, bring to the Lord in prayer. I hope that this has helped. God bless you, Joe Meineke Assistant to Bro. Ignatuis
