Spiritual Warfare Forum: Tobacco use and spirits
Tobacco use and spirits QUESTION from Popeye The Sailor Man August 10, 2001 Greetings Brother,
It is well known that illegal drug use today involves drugs that help break away the barrier between our world, and the spirit world. This notion and intent has been abused in pagan tribes since ancient times. That being said, tobacco is a legal drug which does have power effects on the mind and body. I don't remember where I read it, but I recall reading something about tobacco being used in rituals. Obviously as a Christian I am NOT interested in meddling with the spirit world. BUT, as someone who smokes tobacco, i'm wondering (aside from the obvious negative physical effects, i.e. cancer) if this poses a threat to my spiritual life?

ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on August 13, 2001 Dear Mr. Popeye:
A note to everyone: please do not give a cute handle when posting questions. There seems to have been a number of these lately. If one does not wish to use their real name, then use a REAL SOUNDING name. If these handles continue, we will begin rejecting the questions. Now, as to your question, there is no direct spiritual problem with smoking legal cigarettes, cigars, pipes. There was a saint who was known the the Cigar Smoking Saint -- I can't remember his name off-hand.
The tobacco used in pagan and aboriginee rituals is not normal tabacco but is a tabacco with mind-altering substances mixed in, or tobacco made out of mind-altering herbs and plants.
