ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on March 6, 2000 Dear Mr. Walker:
Thank you for your question. Before I answer it, I do need to remind everyone who might post questions to please do NOT type in all CAPS. Please type in Sentence Case (which is how this sentence is typed). Thanks.
What is Demonology?
Demonology as I define it is the study of the theology, nature, and activities of demons and their methods to tempt and influence the human race and to thwart God's plan and destroy His creation; and in conjunction with this the study of the theology, nature, and methods of resisting demons and their influences and activities, and in exorcizing them from our environment.
As to finding more information on this, you will find some articles in our Library on demonology, including a document or two from the Church if I remember correctly, and I will be preparing a recommended reading list that will be linked at the top of the Spiritual Warfare Forum Index page.
However, I would caution you about being too curious about this topic. We do need to know the basic schemes of Satan so that we can be prepared to fight against those strategies that some against us in our lives. But, unless one is called by God to a specific Spiritual Warfare ministry, or comes across this issue in the course of their profession (such as a psychologist/counselor, pastor, police officer, youth worker, etc.), then the more detailed information you just simple do not need to know.
How far should you pursue your curiosity?
ZERO. You should not indulge mere curiosity AT ALL. As I mentioned above, we need to know the basics of the enemies schemes and strategies, but we need to know that not out of curiosity, but out of preparation for defending ourselves when we are attacked.
Curiosity killed the cat!
That is not a cliche in the area of Spiritual Warfare, that is a promise.
