Faith/Spirituality Forum: Sacrament of the Sick....formerly Extreme Unction

by Catherine Frakas 09 Aug 2001

Sacrament of the Sick....formerly Extreme Unction QUESTION from Audrey January 27, 2001 Can a non-Catholic receive the Sacrament of the Sick. If he does, does he receive all the graces and benefits a Catholic does? Many thanks, and God Bless you.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on March 19, 2001 Mrs. Audrey:
Under normal circumstances only a Catholic in communion with the Catholic Church can receive Sacraments. But non-Catholic can benefit from sacramentals.
A non-Catholic can be blessed in a sacramental of healing (not the Sacrament), and receive the graces that come from that sacramental. But the graces from the sacramental prayer is not as beneficial as the full Sacrament.
