Catholic Lay Evangelists QUESTION from Donald Lirette April 14, 2000 How long has the catholic Church had, and recognized, Catholic Lay Evangelists?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on April 18, 2000 Dear Mr. Lirette:
The Church has recognized Lay Evangelists since 33AD. We are ALL called to evangelism and have always been called to evangelism.
In fact, it is the duty of every layman to evangelize. This is in the Bible and through out the teachings of the Church.
We had forgotten that in the last few hundred years which is one reason Vatican II was convened. One of the Primary messages of Vatican II was the need and duty of EVERY person to evangelize, to preach the Gospel wit their words and with their actions.
If we are Christian, we are evangelists.
