Divine Office Forum: Supplement to the LOH ("fifth volume")
Supplement to the LOH (fifth volume) QUESTION from M Smith on January 29, 2003 The link I had included earlier (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0899424058/), I found in your response to Office of Readings Lectionary by Don Harris; your reply is dated 22 January 2001.
In that reply you said you had ordered the book, that was why I thought you might know whether the psalm prayers were included in it.
Thanks in advance
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on January 29, 2003 Dear Mr. Smith:
Oh, well I cannot remember even yesterday let alone two years ago. Apparently I did not go ahead and get this volume because I do not have it.
This volume apparently is a optional two-cycle of Readings for use at the Office of Readings.
I don't know if this volume contains the whole of the Office of Readings or just the readings. If it does NOT contain the entire office, then the other parts of the office will be found in the 4-vol set. These do have the psalm-prayers.
I am confused as to why such a focus on the psalm-prayers. First, if the Supplement contains the entirety of the Office then ALL of the Office will be there -- including any psalm-prayers. It the supplement only contains readings to be used in the Office, then the rest of the Office is found in the 4-vols which I know contains the psalm-prayers.
The psalm-prayers will be found wherever the Psalms are found.
Thus you are not going to be without the psalm-prayers. But keep in mind the psalm-prayers are optional. They are inserted to help people understand the psalm in the context of today's world. They are purely ancillary.
