Divine Office Forum: A Mighty Fortress

by Catherine Frakas 14 Feb 2002

A Mighty Fortress QUESTION from Gerard Paul on January 23, 2003 Dear Bro Ignatius,
I remember your posting in one of the forums that you said A Mighty Fortress is our God drives me up the wall. I can understand why. But the hymn is in all approved versions of the Liturgy of the Hours I have. Why? And what do you do when it's the listed hymn for the particular day?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on January 28, 2003 Dear Mr. Paul:
No, I never said that A Mighty Fortress Is Our God drives me up a wall. I think one of our other Q & A hosts said that.
I like the hymn.
As for the hymns in the Divine Office, you are not required to sing a particular hymn for a particular Office. You can choose from a selection. So even if the edition of the Office you have lists a particular hymn, you should find a reference to a location in the book that gives several options.
