Divine Office Course is Underway
ANNOUNCEMENT by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on December 27, 2002 Dear Folks:
It has been a long time coming, I know. I apologize for the long delay in getting this course finished. But I am now working on it and hope to have it done in a month or so.
Below is the draft Course Mission Statement and Outline as a teaser to the upcoming course.
Course on the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours)
Mission Statement: this course on the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) is designed to instruct the faithful on the history, theology, nature, purpose, goals, and significance of this Official Prayer of the Church and to provide comprehensive tutorials in written instructions, audio presentations to enable the average person to successfully navigate through the books of the Office and to sing or recite the Office with the Church. The audio presentations will include an example of each office sung in Plain Chant in a Benedictine style learned by the author.
Course Outline:
I. Names for the Official Prayer of the Church
1. Divine Office (we will use this term most often throughout this Course) 2. The Office 3. Liturgy of the Hours (the current official name) 4. Christian Prayer 5. Opus Dei (work of God) 6. Breviary (refers to the book itself)

II.. Introduction III. What is the Divine Office IV. The Purpose and Goal of the Divine Office V. Short History of the Divine Office VI. Moral and Ascetic Theology of the Divine Office VII. Participation of the Laity in the Divine Office VIII. Significance of the Divine Office
