Hymns QUESTION from Gerard Paul on October 20, 2002 Dear Brother John-Paul,
Thank you for your answer regarding the hours for Lauds. I'm trying to maintain a discipline to get it done first thing in the morning on or before 8am. It's a great thing savoring the psalms and readings.
I'd just like to reiterate my second question in the previous post. I was asking about hymns which I do not know the tunes to. Is it permitted to just recite them? If not then what should be done? I cannot find any documentation or musical pieces to the hymns available here (even if I could though, I'm not skilled at reading music).
Thanks for your advice.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on October 25, 2002 Dear Mr. Paul:
Sorry, I forgot to answer your second question.
Yes, it is permissible to recite instead of sing the hymns.
