Divine Office Forum: about the office of readings
about the office of readings QUESTION from george May 8, 2001 well, some of the readings, the first reading and the second reading are not found in the book of christian prayer. can you tell me if this is a usual thing? it seams that not all these are contained inside. do i have to use the bible? one more thing, how will i know which of the second reading listed on the back correspond to the day of the week? for example: today, may 8, 2001? please enlighten me. the listings of the second reading contains no pages of which to readings to read. thank you for your help.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on May 28, 2001 Dear Mr. George:
The Office of Readings will not be found in the one volume editions (except for a sampling). The Office of Readings is too big to fit into a one volume book.
In order to have the Readings you will have to buy the 4 volume edition which is in the neigborhood of $125 or so.
You are using the Daughters of St. Paul edition which has ALL of the Office except Readings (except a sampling).
The Catholic Book Publishing Co version of the One-Volume edition has all of Morning, Evening, and Night prayers but does not have Readings OR Day Prayers (except a sampling)
God Bless.
