Liturgical Art History QUESTION from Ben April 8, 2001 During a recent visit to Prague, at the Loretto convent, a crucifix located on a side altar in the outdoor arcade has a near life size curcifix--the corpus draped with a fur, perhaps ermine cape around the shoulders. The feet are side by side, like at pre 15th century crucifix, but the feet appear to be wearing red shoes with Queen Ann heels. I have not been able to find an explanation for this type of footware on the corpus. Can you help?
ANSWER by Mrs. Suzanne Fortin, B.A. on April 14, 2001 Dear Ben
That sounds very intriguing, but unfortunately, I have no information on that particular crucifix. It would make my task much easier if I had a name associated with this crucifix. If readers know of this crucifix, they are asked to write in.
Thank you for your question.
God Bless, Suzanne Fortin
