Notitiae QUESTION from Jeff September 25, 1999
How can I subscribe to or get regular copies of Notitiae? I have often wished to appeal to a competent authority on Church matters, since my faith journey has taught me that the only way to know the truth and to follow Christ is to submit to and obey the legitimate authority, which ought to (and too often does not)rule over every Catholic Church in the world. Thank you, and God bless the work you do here. ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on September 25, 1999
Dear Jeff, Thank you for your question and comments. I couldn't agree with you more about our necessity to be obedient. On my own faith journey I began to explore this topic and I was stunned to find how strongly this theme is taught all throughout the Scriptures. Do a search of an electronic Bible on the words obey, obedient and obedience and you will be amazed. Some of my favorites; If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; [Isaiah 1:19] Then he (Jesus) went down to Nazareth with them (his parents)and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. [Luke 2:51] And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. [Acts 6:7] The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. [2 Corinthians 2:9] Peter tells us; Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority. [1 Peter 2:13] Then there are always those who tell me that they are more concerned with the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter of the law. They claim my insistance on obedience is rigid and being like the Pharisees. But I say we cannot know the spirit of the law without first having it spelled out for us in the letter of the law. As for being like the Pharisees, I need only look to the words of our Lord to see how he felt about our obeying even the Pharisees; So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. [Matthew 23:3] Notitiae is no longer published. I suspect maybe because they've already covered about all they can cover.
