Removing the Eucharist until Consecration QUESTION from Roy September 21, 1999
Is it ok for Fr. to remove the Blessed Sacrament 5 minutes before Mass and not bring it back until the consecration time, he puts in the sacristy in the back of the church, he says it will help us see Jesus in each other and the spoken word and then in the host. ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on September 21, 1999
Dear Roy, Father's practice of removing the Eucharist from the Tabernacle and placing it in the Sacristy during Mass does seem a bit unusual although my instincts tell me that the practice is not prohibited. There's a time during Lent for example that the Tabernacle is emptied and the Eucharist is reserved in the Sacristy and I'm not aware of any liturgical law which would forbid this from happening at other times. Also there are churches and chapels where the Eucharist isn't reserved at all. I'll do a bit more research on the subject. In Christ, John Miskell Back to Index Page
