Liturgy for Children QUESTION from Barbara Patterson March 10, 2000
I am responsible for choosing the readings and songs for our first Friday Masses for our Catholic elementary school. This is the only Mass they all attend together as a school each month. We want to use the Lectionary for Children's Masses. But it does not have the readings for weekday Masses. What do you suggest I use? The previous Sunday readings? For the month of April the Lectionary has weekday readings, but they do not match the regular readings, how do I know which to use? Where can I get a book of simple Catholic songs for children, that will be easy for them to learn and sing? ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on April 5, 2000
Dear Barbara, Thank you for your question and thank you for taking the time to teach out children. If your Lectionary for Masses with children has the daily readings then I would feel comfortable using them although it never occured to me that they might be different than those in the regular Lectionary. If the readings aren't there you can always use the daily readings from the regular Lectionary. I wouldn't use the previous Sunday readings. I'm not up on Sacred Music but I'll bet you could find what you're looking for at Ignatius Press or Tan Publishing. In Christ, John Miskell Back to Index Page
