My husband and I are beginning to wonder what on earth is up with my dog! She is about 4 1/2 years old, a cattle dog/lab mix and is a sweet dog who is (fairly) obedient. But she just loses it whenever we walk her anywhere near the local Mormon church or whenever we encounter Mormons. We first noticed this when she would bolt off or try to pull away wildly in the opposite direction as we walked past the Mormon grounds. One time, my husband saw something (a coat?) lying in the grass near the building and tried to go over to investigate, but my dog went nuts and wouldn't let him. This afternoon, Mormon missionaries knocked at the door, and we knew something was wrong with the dog even before we figured out who was there. I went out on the porch and closed the door behind me to talk to them because my dog wouldn't stop barking and growling. While I was outside with the missionaries, my husband said she was pacing back and forth to the door, growling. Every bit of fur on her body was standing on end, not just her hackles.I admit my dog isn't too crazy about the UPS delivery guy either, but we are at a loss as to how we might explain this! Could she somehow be picking up on certain demonic elements in Mormonism? Has anyone ever heard of certain animals being hyper-sensitive to the supernatural? Thanks! Carol Joanne Page USA 88 Posts

Hi Carol,Logically, I would say your dog is protecting you. Dogs can feel our energy because they are pack animals and great observers of our actions and reactions. Often, they will take the initiative to protect their pack. They can sense our fears. If you do not want someone at the front door they will not want them there either.

Dear Carol:Joanne is certainly correct. Pets take their cue from their owners and can sense subtle moods in us.As to the specific question of animals sensing the paranormal, yes, they can. In fact, we ask our clients about the behavior of their pets. We look for specific behavior such as fear in the pet who runs from the room, growling at nothing, taking a defensive stance at nothing (such as a cat hunched and bristled). There are times where our pets may sense a spirit presence when we do not.

God Bless, Bro. Ignatius Mary
