February 24, 2001 QUESTION from Tobias Knight Freemasonary Out of curiosity, I am raising the subject of Freemasonry. There are many different things said on the subject of Freemasonry, I would like to focus on its debated compatibility with modern Christianity. There are certainly mixed views on the Christian side, but most all Freemasons openly deny that the Masonic tradition is incompatible with Christianity, or for that matter any given religion.
What is your opinion regarding Freemasonry and the numerous sects of Masonic and pseudo-Masonic practice.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on May 14, 2001 Dear Mr. Knight:
The Catholic Church forbids any Catholic from joining the Freemasions or any of its sects.
Freemasonry is utterly incompatible with Christianity. Anyone, even a baby Christian, should see this if reviewing the two beliefs systems side-by-side. And any Christian should sense something wrong immediately upon participation in the very first ritual of membership. The Ritual hardly blends with Christian sensibilities.
A clue to the incompatibility is the Mason's own assertion that Masonry is not incompatible with ANY religion. That alone tells it all. Christianity is not 100% compatible with ANY other religion. The Jewish religion comes close since Christianity arose from and was a fulfillment of the Jewish faith. But Christianity claims to be the only true representative of God on this planet, and more specifically the Pope is God's only Prime Minister on this planet. This is not compatible with a system that claims compatibility with all religions.
While there may be similarities and elements of common agreement between religions, there is NOT a compatibility between religions.
Freemasonary, despite its protestations, DOES assert its own theology. That theology is not Christian and in many ways is Satanic.
For pete's sake, Freemasons trace their spiritual heritage to Tubal Cain. Tubal Cain is one of the secret words in some of their rituals. Tubal Cain is in the Bible and is a member of the condemned family line of Cain. Tubal Cain is the great, great, grandson of Cain, who murdered his brother Abel. Whew, what a person to pick for a spiritual forefather.
There is ZERO way Freemasons can be compatible with Christianity.
