Catholics and Jehovah's Witnesses QUESTION from Mrs. Oreily September 26, 2000 I have had several in-home visits from very nice older ladies who have said we can use my catholic Bible in our weekly studies. They asked to come in,so I let them. I didn't want to be rude. Now I can't get them to go away. You were recommended by someone in the catholic chat room. I really need some advice to convince them to go away. They are coming again tomarrow. Any ideas?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on November 25, 2000 Dear Mrs. Oreily:
I presume these ladies that you want to leave are Jehovah's Witnesses?
You need to be honest with them. Tell them:
Jehovah Witness beliefs are incompatible with the Catholic Church and that this Bible study is a Catholic Bible study. As a Catholic Bible Study, and not a debate club, we must keep the study and the information presented in the study consistent with the teaching of the Church.
Thus I must ask you not to attend our bible studies in the future. I am sorry if I offend you, but we need to keep our studies Catholic.
Then, if they return, don't let them in.
BE WARNED, Jehovah Witnesses tend to be very arrogant and agressive. They will take advantage of your kindness. YOU WILL NEED TO PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. You will need to be firm (which sounds like rudeness). But you must do it.
People like this can be like flies... flies never go away no matter how much one shews them. The only solution is a fly swatter.
God Bless.
