To Slay or Not to Slay QUESTION from Riley March 9, 2000 Has there every been any record through time of a Slayer or any other kind of demon killer? It has been said several times that demons are just spirits, and I believe this. But sometimes if a demon where to inhabit a human being's body, who fights them?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on March 17, 2000 Dear Mr. Riley:
I think you have been watching to many T.V. shows.
There is no Slayer of demons like on that one ridiculous TV series.
Demons cannot be slayed anyway.
When demons inhabit people the person who handles getting the demon out of the person is called an exorcist.
Lessor forms of exorcism are done by people like me. But a full-fledge solemn exorcism can only be done by a priest and only with the permission of his bishop.
Exorcism does not slay anyone -- neither the person possessed nor the demon. It merely casts out the demon from the person so that the person is free from its influence. The destination of the demon is wherever Jesus tells it to go.
