Enneagram QUESTION from Frances November 3, 1998 Is the enneagram acceptable to be taught in our church?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius on November 30, 1998 Dear Frances:
Please accept my apologies for taking so long to get to your question. Due to a computer glitch your question was not discovered until today.
Enneagrams are TOTALLY inconsistent with Christianity and should NEVER be used by any Christian, Priest, Bishop, or whoever.
Unfortunately, Enneagrams are actually used in the screening of future priests sometimes. This is a scandal in my view.
Enneagram is based upon occultic philosophy and upon divination. Deuteronomy chapter 18 specifically forbids divination and so does the Catechism (no 2116).
Enneagram is divination because it tries to divine one's personality and to divine personal enlightenment through this method rather than through Christ.
Father Mitch Pacwa wrote a book that includes a couple chapters on the Enneagram. The book is Catholic and the New Age
