Faith/Spirituality Forum: Marys role in the church
Marys role in the church QUESTION from Barbara Brooks on September 23, 2002 I would like to know what Marys role in the church was after Jesus died...Did She have a role or did She just stay in the background ???
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on September 24, 2002 Dear Miss Brooks:
Although there are many speculations and also some unreliable or non-definite manuscripts that speaks of Mary's life after the Crucifixion, the fact is that we really do not know for sure.
Because of Mary being Jesus' mother I am sure she was considered a very important person and probably treated like a Queen Mother.
In Scripture, Bathsheba, who was the Queen Mother to King Solomon, is the archetype and forerunner for Mary as Queen Mother.
As the story of the Annunciation recorded in Luke we know that Mary was blessed above all women and all generations would honor her.
Thus I am sure she held a place of high honor and as Queen Mother and Mother of Jesus she might have even been approached for advice.
