Faith/Spirituality Forum: Christ's Suffering
Christ's Suffering QUESTION from Karen Ambrose April 7, 2001 Why are we asked to suffer with Christ for redemptive reasons? Didn't he suffer and die on the cross for everyone? I don't know how to explain this to my Baptist friend. Thank you and God Bless.
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on July 8, 2001 Dear Mrs. Ambrose:
Yes, Christ died on the Cross for everyone.
We are asked to SHARE in that sufferng of Christ, that is, to raise our sufferings up to God to the level of redemption. When we unite our sufferings with the Suffering of Christ, we allow our suffering to mold us into the kind of Christian we ought to be and we participate in the working grace of God in others lives.
But I explain this poorly. There is an excellent article about redemptive suffering that I refer you to: http://
