Saints QUESTION from Vince February 4, 2001 It's just a matter of time and patience Mother Theresa becomes a saint, right?
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, OLSM on April 26, 2001 Dear Mr. Vince:
Not necessarily. It is a matter of the Holy Spirit and the discernment of the Church that she may be declared a Saint.
No amount of time will make a person a Saint that the Holy Spirit does not wish to be declared a Saint and does not qualify to be a Saint.
We do not know whether Mother Teresa even qualifies. That is what the Church is investigating.
We can never presume the Church will find a person a Saint. There have been in the past people like Mother Teresa who were presumed a Saint by the people only to find out after the Church's investigation that the person did not qualify and was thereby not raised to Canonized Saint.
This we need patience and wait on the Holy Spirit. She may, or may not, be declared a Saint.
