Our Father QUESTION from Johnny Cash July 13, 2000 Hello. Say, I was wondering if it is nessasary to pray the word amen at the end of the our Father during Lauds and Vespers.
Thanks, Mr. Cash
ANSWER by John-Paul Ignatius, O.L.S.M. on July 21, 2000 Dear Mr. Cash:
I can't think of any reason to leave out the Amen after the Our Father. It is an important part of the prayer.
In making a quick look at the General Instructions I can't find any reference that speaks to this, but that is because, I imagine, that it is presumed that one will pray the whole prayer, including the Amen.
The Amen is the signature sort-to-speak. It is your personal affirmation that you believe in what you just prayed and that you are offering that prayer.
I would always include it.
God Bless.
