Music at Mass QUESTION from Daniele 02 Jun 1999
Is it appropriate to use at Mass songs from some contemporary Christian singers like Rich Mullins, Amy Grant, Michael W.Smith, and so on? You wrote in an answer that: ...(b) The following come under the title of sacred music here: Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony in its various forms both ancient and modern, sacred music for the organ and other approved instruments, and sacred popular music, be it liturgical or simply religious... Are those songs included in the 'sacred popular music'? What do you think? We use them a lot in the Masses for our Youth group, and I was wondering... Thanks! Dear Daniele, I'm no musician and I'm therefore completely unfamiliar with the artists you mentioned. I'd like to see some of the lyrics and I'd also like to know if any of this music is used in place of any of the prayers at Mass such as the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, etc. . . Sorry I couldn't be more help. John Miskell Back to Index Page
