Roy Forker's Question on Gregorian Chant QUESTION from Michael Pearce May 25, 1999
Dear John, I just noticed Roy Forker's question of May 7, asking whether the Vatican ever got around to issuing simplified Gregorian chants, in line with Sacrosanctum Concilium. In the early 1970's they published the Graduale Simplex, which contains chants to be used in conjunction with the 1970 Missal and Lectionary, including responsorial psalms for the Liturgy of the Word. For the most part, these chants are used at the Papal Masses celebrated at Saint Peter's. I would imagine the book is still available from the Vatican publishers, Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Dear Michael, Thanks for the information. I imagine that the Graduale Simplex could be ordered from a Catholic book store. Yours, John Miskell Back to Index Page
