Liturgical dancing QUESTION from Joe December 2, 2000 I recently read your response to someone who asked a question about liturgical dancing and you responded that it was forbidden in the West. About 15 years ago, I was living in Washington, DC and attended Mass at a church in the District. The congregaton was predominatly black and they were dancing down the aisle. Apparently this rule is not rigidly enforced?
thank you
ANSWER by Mr. John Miskell on December 4, 2000 Dear Joe,
Many of the rules are not rigidly enforced. In fact many of them are blatantly ignored in some places. Some trendy clerics and liturgists would argue that there are compelling arguments to have liturgical dancing in predominantly black parishes in spite of the rule to the contrary. I've been waiting for one of them to present a compelling argument to support open defiance to Church authority.
In Christ,
John Miskell
