Ascension Thursday QUESTION from Greg Neywick May 24, 2000 My mother's pastor told his parish that Ascension Thursday would be moved to the following Sunday. He said that the US bishops had voted on this and been approved by Rome. Is there any truth to this? Is there a document stating such a change? The reason given is that there are so many working people in this country that many are not able to come to mass on a weekday, that there are not enough priests to say the masses!?! Were there not enough priests to say the masses on Easter?

Dear Greg The NCCB, with the approval of Rome, granted permission to several dioceses in the US to move Ascension Thursday to the following Sunday. I don't know if the letter is available online, perhaps you could find it at the NCCB/USCC website. John Miskell Back to Index Page
