Our Lord cured the sick and healed the broken hearted. In today’s Mass readings Jesus healed a deaf mute by placing his finger in his ears and saliva on his tongue. The healing power, however, did not come from these Sacramental actions, but from the words of Our Lord. This is the nature of the Sacraments — a physical manifestation of an invisible reality. Let us receive the Sacraments and be open to hearing the Word of God and speaking the Gospel to others. Posted in Healing, Ordinary Time, Sacramental Life | Tags: | No Comments
Without Human Respect October 30th, 2009 Listen Now
Jesus had no respect for human interpretations of the Sabbath. He healed on the Sabbath despite the criticism by the Pharisees. At the dinner a infirmed man came in and said nothing but stood in before Jesus. Jesus healed him. We too need to stand before our Lord and say nothing but rather to allow our Lord to heal us. Looking Up to Heaven October 26th, 2009 Listen Now
The leaders of the synagogue criticized Jesus for healing a woman on the Sabbath. Jesus, however, placed the Sabbath in its proper perspective and called the leaders hypocrites for working with animals on the Sabbath. Jesus considered a human being more important. We, too, need to keep our lives in perspective and lift up our hearts to our Lord. We also need to always be compassionate and never pass by pain or misery. Stretch Out Your Hand September 7th, 2009 Listen Now
God does not ask us to do the impossible. He always gives us the grace to do whatever He calls us to do. He gives us the grace to be saints. We need to reach out our hand, like the man with the withered hand in today’s Gospel. When we do what we can, God will make up for whatever is lacking. That reaching out can be small. With Christ our power resides in what is small. Posted in Faith, Healing, Obedience, Ordinary Time | Tags: | No Comments
He Imposed His Hands on Them September 2nd, 2009 Listen Now
Helping and caring for people as Christ himself would do is part of our Christian duty. We need to help those who need it, treating them with the dignity and respect they are due as human persons and children of God. Christ tireless healed many sick. It laid hands on people at all times and all places. Let us see now in His presence of we treat our brethren with the same attention as He did.
